Vanessa comes out strong in First Round of Malaysian Open

I’m now into a new season of tournaments starting with the Malaysian Open at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre. Today’s meeting with Vanessa Atkinson in the first round seems different because we have had so many matches together in the finals on the glass court in previous Malaysian opens. That is why, today I was expecting her to come in with everything she’s got.

The match started off with some controlled lengths from the two of us with hardly any opportunities to play winning shots. She made a few mistakes later in that game and I took some chances too. The second game felt similar but in the third game, she kept onto every shot I played and did not let go.

At 8-8 it could have gone either way and both of us chased down every shot just to win that last 3 crucial points. I won those 3 points to win the match but I worked hard to win in 3 games.

Tomorrow will be my first appearance with Kasey Brown in a WISPA event. It is the quarter finals and this will be held in the Curve at 9pm. See you guys there, if not sign into our live blog for the commentary and scores there.

I’m off to bed now! Good night.

By the way, I embroidered our Squash Stars logo to my shirt! Neat or what? :)
