Joelle vs Annie

Head-to-head, Joelle leads 4-2. They have never played each other in Malaysia before. Today proved to be a really close match between the current world number 5 and the former world no 6.

It’s a battle of Joelle’s strength and depth versus Annie’s tricks and drops. Joelle up 5-4 in the third. #cimb #myopen2013

And the Kiwi is the first to check into the quarters! [5] Joelle King (NZL) bt [12] Annie Au (HKG) 13/11, 11/8, 11/9 #cimb #myopen2013

Laura vs Nicolette

It is interesting to note that Laura and Nicolette has had 4 meets before today, spanning as far back as to 2005.

Laura in good stead and untroubled by feisty Nico. [2] Laura Massaro (ENG) v [Q] Nicolette Fernandes (GUY) 11/5, 11/5, … #cimb #myopen2013

— Squash Stars (@SquashStars) September 12, 2013

Costly tin by Nico at the last juncture! [2] Laura Massaro (ENG) bt [Q] Nicolette Fernandes (GUY) 11/5, 11/5, 11/7 #cimb #myopen2013

Raneem vs Dipika

Raneem surprisingly started the game on a quick foot, and didn’t allow Dipika to dictate the pace in the first. Dipika surprised the crowd (and also Raneem) in the second game and was leading the game at 9-0… making Raneem play catch up.

Did we mention it was a FAST game? [3] Raneem El Welily (EGY) v [13] Dipika Pallikal (IND) 11/4, … #cimb #myopen2013

— Squash Stars (@SquashStars) September 12, 2013

Raneem steers clear and into the quarters! [3] Raneem El Welily (EGY) bt [13] Dipika Pallikal (IND) 11/4, 9/11, 11/7, 11/2 #cimb #myopen2013

Jenny vs Rachael

The last time these two ladies met on this stage was in 2009 in the quarter finals, the match went into 80 minutes with Rachel coming out on top.

Second Englishwoman into the quarters. [7] Jenny Duncalf (ENG) bt [14] Rachael Grinham (AUS) 11/7, 3/11, 11/7, 11/5 #cimb #myopen2013

Sarah-Jane vs Joey

This is the first time we’re watching Sarah-Jane in person; she’s definitely much taller in person and a lot sassier too. Joey Chan who is half her size was no match for Sarah’s hard hitting shots in the end.

What a thriller but SJP too strong in the end! [16] Sarah-Jane Perry (ENG) bt Joey Chan (HKG) 11/9, 11/6, 5/11, 11/8 #cimb #myopen2013

— Squash Stars (@SquashStars) September 12, 2013

Camille vs Alison

UPSET OF THE DAY! Camille and Alison has only met once in Singapore 2010. It was an close match with Alison winning that one. Today, Camille equals that score.

BIG upset and first for the day! [10] Camille Serme (FRA) bt [4] Alison Waters (ENG) 11/9, 11/5, 11/9 #cimb #myopen2013

Nicol vs Omneya

Nicol and Omneya go way back with Nicol leading 16-1 matches over Omneya. Although it may look pretty obvious to most who is going to take the game—Omneya never makes it easy for anybody. Her quirks definitely makes for entertaining squash.

A couple of questionable calls in this 2nd set. But both girls showing good sportsmanship and respect for one another. Asking for let’s.

Kasey vs Wee Wern

The rallies are always long and close between Kasey and Wee Wern. Wern has a slight mental edge over Kasey having won their last two meets.

We wrap up the day with the Malaysian flag flying high! Wee Wern or Nicol will be in the semis as they’re drawn to meet each other tomorrow
