Nicol’s KL Open Blog

Another year for yet another CIMB KL Open at Bukit Jalil and Berjaya Times Square and this time the Malaysian following was even bigger and better. Always such a positive vibe coming back to Malaysia, getting the support from everybody.

Round 1 with Sarah
Sarah Kippax came out stronger in the second and third games, playing a variety of shots but I had to keep her away from taking a game off me.

I won this game 11/4, 11/8, 11/8 (39m)

Quarter Finals with Kasey

Kasey Brown took the third game after our intense first two games. The fourth went to my favour while she started making a few errors.

I won 11/5, 11/4, 6/11, 11/5 (41m)

Semi Finals with Alison

This match went 11/4, 12/10, 11/5 (37m) in my favour.

No room for me to give any opportunities away playing Alison Waters as her control can be dangerous. Fast paced match and winning a close second game gave me an advantage to win 3-0.

Finals with Madeline Perry

Madeline Perry kept consistent but my focus and movement were at my best during our match that I didn’t want to let it go. It was high intensity all the way.

It’s funny how I’ve played this event at least 10 years in a row or more. After winning my 7th KL Open title this time, I guess in ‘squash years’, seems like I’ve been around for a while!

Against 7th seed Madeline Perry; 11/6, 11/6, 11/2 (34 Min)

Many thanks to everyone who cheered and supported me. I’m definitely looking forward to coming home to play for the Malaysian Opens later in the year.
Next up: off to the Cayman Islands in a week for the Cayman Island Open!

Thanks everybody!
