Saturday, 18th September, Round One with Manuela
I won my match today against Manuela Manetta 11/4, 11/5, 11/3. Unfortunately, she had an ankle injury and couldn’t play at her best. I now play World Number 5, Madeline Perry in the round of 16. The courts here are quite slow but the ball bounces up alot if you take it in short or put in the short cross court. Also, the side walls are a bit skiddy which makes boasting difficult. Hopefully I can cause an upset tomorrow. I will let you know how I go.
Sunday, 19th September, Round Two with Madeline
I defeated Madeline Perry today 11/8, 9/11, 11/8, 11/8. It was a long match but I kept my head and stuck to the game plan and it paid off in the end. She didnt give away any cheap points and the court was bouncy so really had to dig in. I was unlucky to lose the second as she fluked one at 9/9 and I hit the crack between the front and side wall at 10/9 which she put away. I am happy for the win and for the first time, to be in the Quarter finals of the World Open. I play the winner of Omneya Abdul Kawi and Jaclyn Hawkes on the glass court tomorrow night.
Monday, 20th September, Quarter Finals with Omneya
I lost yesterday to Omneya 8/11, 12/14, 11/6, 5/11 in the quarters of the World Open. The first 2 games were close and I had a game ball in the second. I needed to play straight off the crosscourt volley from the start but took me a while to do so (guess its an automatic nervous thing) and on big points I needed to get the drop to run along the wall. Its just a few things that make a big difference at the end of the day.
Next focus is on Commonwealth Games Gold.
