Nicol David blogs from Texas Open 2009
It’s back to business here today in Dallas for the Texas Open after a week long tournament in the Cayman Islands. The first round starts today and the squash crowd at the Lifetime Fitness Club has been gearing up to see some top level squash happening right here.
The squash court has a glass side wall just by the basketball courts and we’ve taken over the whole basketball court to create seating space for the crowd coming in to watch us play. Gave us girls a chance to shoot some hoops in between training.
My first round match was with Dominique Lloyd-Walter from England and she’s had some good wins to qualify into this major event. She got right into it from the beginning while I was finding my way into the court a little bit. Some long rallies from both of us while I tried to take the lead away from her with a couple of tight shots that came my way.
In the second and third game, I felt settled and tried to step it up a bit in each game. She was matching the pace and I knew I needed to keep working for every point. Finally, I had a big lead in the third to take me through the match.
Next up is Isabelle Stoehr of France. Will keep the news coming your way…
