1st Round vs Lucie Fialova
Tuesday, 20 March 2012

Today I won my first round against World Number 40, Lucie Fialova 11/7 11/3 11/4. The courts are very fast at Montreal’s country club but I was able to win comfortably by moving the hard hitting Czech around the court. Unfortunately no new dresses were unveiled at this event as they were lost in the postage process which is disappointing after the amazing efforts by Marlene and Trisha Borg and Harrow. This is the first tournament I have played with the new Harrow Kasey Brown custom racket that you can buy through Harrow’s website. I love the weight and balance of the racket. Tomorrow I play Denmark’s Line Hansen in the quarter finals at 5.30pm.

Quarters vs Line Hansen
Thursday, 22 March 2012

Tonight I played Line Hansen in the quarter finals of the Atwater Cup. Line got off to a flying start and I was down 2/7 in the first game. I composed myself and fought back to take the game 11/8. I was down again in the second 2/5 but picked up the pace and took out the second 11/7. The third game was tight but again I moved ahead to take the final game 11/8. Although I won in 3, the scores did not reflect how tough the match was. Line played well and hit some great winning shots.

I seem to be beating myself up out on court. Yesterday I noticed in the first game that my thumb on my left hand was pouring out blood and was all over my left leg. Not wanting to delay the game and come off court, I tried to contain the blood. For those who were watching, I do not have insecurity issues or suck my thumb in-between each point, it was just bleeding. Today I copped my own racket to my left ear after running into Line on the way to the ball. On a positive note, I had my racket up. Finally, my ring finger on my right hand is swollen but Im not really sure how that one came about. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

I now face and inform Sarah Kippax in the semi finals tomorrow night at 6.30pm.

Semis vs Sarah Kippax
Friday, 23 March 2012

Tonight I played 3rd seed, Sarah Kippax in the semi finals of the Atwater Cup. After trailing in the games last night, I was determined to come out strong and take an early lead. I was able to do so and took the first game convincingly. The second game was tough as Sarah picked up the pace but I was able to stay in front and won 11/8. Again I tried to dominate the middle position and I was able to place a lot of pressure on Sarah to take the 3rd game 11/4.

Good news, have not damaged myself further :)

Tomorrow night, I play the winner of Joey Chan and Alison Waters at 6.45pm.

I want to say a big thank you to Glen Wilson for running such a great and well organized event and to Caroline Miller who has generously hosted me all week.

Final vs Alison Waters
Saturday, 24 March 2012

Tonight I lost a hard fought match against Alison Waters 3/2. It was a long and hard fought match and Alison is back playing her best squash. Although I was up 2/1, Waters fought back well and really attacked well in the 5th game to take out the tournament. I had enough time to have a quick shower and head straight to the airport where I am about to board my flight to Malaysia for the KL Open. Let’s hope I don’t cramp up on the flight, although I know I will sleep well. Well done to Glen Wilson and the team at the Atwater Club for putting on such a successful event.
