Shelley to compete in the Women’s World Team Championship

Ill-health has ruled New Zealand’s former world No. 6 squash player Shelley Kitchen out of the Commonwealth Games in India.

Kitchen is recovering from pleurisy and has been advised to miss the Games in New Delhi in October.

Her place will be taken by Matamata world No. 51 Kylie Lindsay, with the personnel change possible impacting on what doubles combinations will be employed.

Lindsay reached a ranking high of 45 in October. She was eliminated in the semifinals of the national championships in Whakatane last week.

Kitchen, who won a women’s doubles silver medal and singles bronze at the 2006 Games in Melbourne, gave birth to her first child in February but hasn’t played at the top level since.

New Zealand Commonwealth Games squash team:

Women: Jaclyn Hawkes, Joelle King, Tamsyn Leevey, Kylie Lindsay
Men: Campbell Grayson, Martin Knight
