Nour El Tayeb's 3rd WSA Title

Nour El Tayeb defeated top seed Joey Chan in straight games to claim her third career title in the WSA Silver Atlantis Open 2012.

The second seeded Egyptian made short work of Czech Lucie Fialova in round one, before beating compatriot Heba El Torky in four games to book her semi-final place.  There she faced fourteen-year-old local qualifier Nouran Ahmed Gohar, who demonstrated remarkable resilience for her age in defeating Emily Whitlock and Aisling Blake, before taking a game but understandably falling short of the world No.21’s standard.

At the top end of the draw, Hong Kong’s Joey Chan beat Nouran El Torky in round one, before dismissing the English contingent of Sarah Kippax followed by Lauren Briggs, each in four games.

El Tayeb started the quicker of the pair in the final, running out a comfortable 11-6 first game before Chan was able to form any semblance of threat.  The second game was a closer contest with both players hitting full stride, a tiebreak was forced but the Egyptian still held the upper hand to extend her lead to two games.  At this stage, El Tayeb was well into her stride and finished off the contest in straight games to win her first title of 2012 and third of her career.
