Squash racquet manufacturer Black Knight announced this week that it had signed Australian squash star Donna Urquhart to a two-year deal.
Urquhart joins Australian squash great David Palmer as high profile ambassadors for the ambitious Black Knight brand.Black Knight is a Canadian company that is making massive inroads into the Australian and international squash markets.
The signing of Urquhart represents the next step in the company’s plan to further boost its Australian market share.
“Black Knight is seen as a young, vibrant and ambitious company and we believe Donna perfectly represents those ideals,” Black Knight’s Australian distributor Glynn Bunting said.
“She is a wonderful ambassador for the sport and she is someone many people look up to because of what she has achieved.
“Donna has made huge strides over the last 12 months and so has Black Knight. The two are ideally suited to each other.
“I believe with Black Knight’s support Donna can achieve her 2011 goal of breaking into the world’s top 10.”
Urquhart, currently ranked 16th in the world, had a superb 2010, winning a bronze medal at the Delhi Commonwealth Games and being part of the Australian team that won the Women’s World Teams Championship in New Zealand in December. She also claimed her fifth career title on the professional tour when she won the Buler Challenge Cup in Hong Kong in September.
She said she was excited to have made the switch to Black Knight.
“I talked to David about Black Knight some time ago and he was full of praise for the company and the support it gives him,” she said.
“So when they approached me about joining them I jumped at the chance.
“I love the racquets – the way they feel and the way they look – and believe they can help take me to the next step.
“It’s going to be an exciting time over the next three years.”
